alligator

I have eaten alligator a few times before, and against my better judgement I have always sauced it or cooked it in a way that obscures any hint of alligatorish flavor. And I have to say, even this relatively simple straightforward beer batter, yeilded results that were delicious, but still left me wondering, where's the alligator?
I wonder how one would cook this so it tastes like something. Option #2 would been gumbo, but maybe I should just have tossed it in a pan with butter? I wont say tastes like chicken, that would be an insult to the poor fowl.

Alligator... what DOES it taste like??? I had snake once... tasted like eel... frogs legs taste like chicken wings with a hint of trout... so how's about alligator... inquiring minds...

ps... smoking beef tongue as I write... so far tastes great after a long slow boil. TBC

Tastes like nothing. Which is why I think if I ever do it again, I'm just going to lightly sautee it. This was good, but tastes mostly of beer batter. Best thing of all, both my kids tasted it, and said OK.

I am not sure about alligator but crocodile tastes like the offspring of a fish and a chicken that have had intimate reliations.

Thanks for that image anonymous. Which was the father and which the mother? Both are pretty frightening.

I had grilled alligator at the enormous Carnivore restaurant in Nairobi. It was like eating an old wallet.
Maybe alligator goes into the "only if I'm desperate' category?
It's not bad, just why?
